ESXi Support

Environment:

Orion Platform 2017.3.3 SP3

Cloud Monitoring 1.1.0

IPAM 4.6.0

SAM 6.5.0

DPAIM 11.1.0

VMAN 8.1

QoE 2.4

NetPath 1.1.2

NPM 12.2

Problem Description:

When adding a node, I am unable to successfully "Test" the credentials within the VMware Polling Settings.  After attempting to validate the credentials it finally gives up with the error message "Test Failed. Cannot login with selected vCenter or ESX credential."  Without question, the credentials are correct.  I have no issue with our ESXi 6.0 hosts and their vCenter, but cannot get it working for ESXi 6.7.  Is our version of the software not compatible with 6.7?  If not, does anyone know if it's compatible with ESXi 6.5?

How to mass/bulk uncheck 'poll for VMware' option ?

I have around 100 ESX hosts added in SolarWinds and it's polling for VMware (which is done by checking the option 'poll for VMware). Now, we got licenses for VMAN and I added the VCenter and hence would like to remove the presently added individual ESX hosts.

How do I do this without having to go to individual node details page > edit node > uncheck poll for VMware?

Need to report on configured storage per guest VM for newly created Guest VMs

I was asked to set up a report on newly created Guest VMs and show the configured resources for the guest VM. I found the canned report for this, but I am not able to report the amount of configured storage for the Guest VM. I found the column heading "Total Storage Size" under the Virtual Machine object. When I add this to the report, the field is empty for all of the Guest VMs listed in the report. Is this the correct column to be reporting on or is there a better one to use?

VMan / Orion report for CPU Ready [%]

Hi all,

Trying to get a report via the Orion portal for CPU ready.

I know it's avail in VMan, but in Orion the value comes up with {0:0.00} ms.

Anyone familiar with this and can confirm it's actually displaying CPU Ready % and just needs the Custom Format changed?

I'd prefer it in Orion obviously, but if VMan Reporting is the only solution, then I need to narrow the calculations down to business hours M-F, 6am - 9pm.

In my below examples, I attempted to set the clustername seperated by OR statements before the AND, however it did not appear to work.
Is it possible to optimise the queries for the the VMs in the various clusters, or is it correct how I have done it.

VM - CPU Utilisation
vm.powerstate:poweredOn AND cluster.name:"METRO-PROD" OR
vm.powerstate:poweredOn AND cluster.name:"DC-PROD" OR
vm.powerstate:poweredOn AND cluster.name:"OL-PROD" OR
vm.powerstate:poweredOn AND cluster.name:"DC-DEV" OR
vm.powerstate:poweredOn AND cluster.name:"OL-DEV" OR
vm.powerstate:poweredOn AND cluster.name:"DC-OPS"

Thanks

Setting up ClearVM

I was looking for free cloud storage/hosting and just landed on clearvm yesterday. On setup page I saw that it requires atleast 2 computers. One that is I am using and other as a host server. What if for now, I want to use my laptop as my host server? I mean only 1 computer.

Invalid certificate

Hi all-

#1. I am hoping someone can help me resolve this certificate error. when clicking the dashboard tab under virtualization in Orion:

Capture.PNG

I have installed the cert multiple times, both on my workstation and server and still get this message. After closing the browser and reopening it I have to do the process over again.

#2 Is there a way to pass login from orion to Virtualization Manager so we wont have to log in twice?

Replacement for Quest VWorkspace

I'm using Microsoft Hyper-V VDI for our virtual desktop environment.  Also we are using Quest VWorkspace to manage the environment.  With Quest no longer supporting VWorkspace, I'm trying to find a replacement.  Is solar winds VIRTUALIZATION  MANAGER a good choice. If not what is.

Vcenter Status Unknown after vcenter update

I have looked over similar threads but could not find an answer in any of them for my issue. We currently have VMAN v8.2 monitoring two vcenter nodes. We updated one of the vcenter nodes to Vcenter 6.5.0.22000 Build 9451637 and now solar winds is reporting the operational state as "unknown". If I check the node itself, it is reporting correctly. The individual esxi hosts are also still reporting in correctly. The vcenter box that we did not update is still reporting in correctly and is showing Vcenter status as "Up". Polling method is vman orion. Does anyone have any insight into this?

alertI would like a little assistance in configuring an alert for vm guests that reboot. I have one that works well on a shutdown but when I followed that same pattern for reboots I get no results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

VMWare Polling for guests

I am polling an ESX host using SNMP.  In order to manage guest hosts it's asking for a separate SNMP credential even though I click the 'Poll for VMWare' option.

Is it possible to manage guest hosts via the API, or do I need to manage guest hosts like they are stand-alone and not use the 'Poll for VMWare' option for them?

TIA

VMware 6.5 and high VM latency

We just upgraded to our vCenter and Hosts to VMware 6.5 update 1.  After the upgrade we are seeing high vm latency in vman.  Datastore latency seems to be reporting correctly, but vm latency is reporting things like 100,000y.  If you look at the vm performance within vCenter and or ESXi top we are not seeing those latency's and performance is as expected.  We are running vman 7.1 which is supposed to be supported in 6.5.  Was wondering if anyone has seen this.

Support for Citrix Xenserver

Do you know if there will be any special support for Citrix Xenserver in the next year?  Specifically, getting the same kinds of information like VMware: number of VM's; VM names; if they are in NPM; resource usages; etc.

VMAN CPU Ready Widget

I questioned the VMAN dev team about the CPU Ready numbers.  The value displayed in VMAN is much lower than the calculated value out of the ESX console.  Their response is that they calculate ready by dividing the total by the number of cpus.  Essentially, they are calculating a per cpu ready and not a server cpu ready.  Therefore, we are unable to alert on the ready number to get an accurate alert.  For example.

Server 1.  2 cpus.  Total ready is 5%.  VMAN would show 2.5%.  Not an issue.

Server 2.  16 cpus.  Total ready is 30%.  VMAN would show 1.875.  This one is an issue, but it has a lower value than Server1.

So, my question is two fold.

1.  How do most people handle the discrepancy and alert for CPU Ready?

2.  I would like to create a widget that shows a calculation of the CPU Ready x CPU Cores.  But I cannot figure out how to do this.  Any ideas?  I tried to do something like this to make a Query (vm.cpuReadyPeak.day:* * vm.cpuCount:*), but I cannot figure out how to make this a value that can be added to a Widget.

Is there a way to alert when a datacenter has reached 80% capacity?

Snapshot description info not being retrieved from vmware

VMAN 8.3.0

Was asked to add description info for snapshots in to Snapshot virtualisation reports.

For example, this is shown in vmware:

Checking VIM.Snapshots show's the entire Description column as NULL and the PowerState as unknown for all.

Searching for the snapshot above in the database gives the following rows to demonstrate the difference between expectation and reality.

We plan to update to VMAN 8.4.0 in coming days but release notes do not mention this and unable to find any thwack threads on it.

Has anyone else encountered this before, know of a fix or will this need a support ticket?

Exporting VI data to Visio

Is there a way to export all of the virtual infrastructure data that is captured by VMAN and export it to Visio? I see that there is something similar that can be done with network topology.

Thank you,

VM Disk Latency Alerts

Since upgrading our environment to ESXi/vCenter 6.5U2 we have been experiencing "VM Disk Latency" according to VMAN. Frequently it will show latency approaching 25 seconds! After hours of trying to find the cause of this latency we are starting to wonder if the data in Orion could be incorrect. We can not find any evidence of latency exceeding 8ms in vCenter nor on the hosts using esxtop.

Where is VMAN pulling the VM Disk stats from and how can I validate that an issue actually exists?
